Safety
Safety systems that provide clever protection.
Falcon's extensive list of safety features incorporates the Intelligent Safety System which employs both active and passive safety measures to provide occupants with that extra peace of mind.
Intelligent Safety System
Sit back in any Falcon and you can take comfort in the knowledge you're cocooned by a legion of passive safety features. In an emergency the computer driven Intelligent Safety System (ISS) coordinates a response to enhance your protection. It's a unique system that employs a number of sensors, which monitor information such as driver seating position, seat belt status and crash severity.
In an accident this information is fed to the Advanced Restraints Module, which instantly decides how best to deploy the latest safety technologies. These technologies include dual stage inflation airbags, which activate as needed, front seat belt pretensioners which reduce any slack and energy management seat belt retractors that limit the amount of force on the occupant.
Side airbags on Falcon^ also help protect front row occupants in the event of a side impact. The list of Intelligent Safety System features continues with front crumple zones, a reinforced safety cell, collapsible steering wheel and more. All working towards offering its occupants a safer driving experience.
Reverse Sensing System
The Falcon's Reverse Sensing System* supports drivers while reversing by warning them of obstacles behind the car. The ultrasonic sensors fitted to the rear bumper emit short sound impulses and register the sound echo. The electronic control unit then uses the echo to determine the distance to an obstacle.
The system warns of obstacles that are between 1.85m and 0.45m from the vehicle, adopting a continuous tone when the gap is less than this. In addition, the outboard pair of sensors provides 0.5m of coverage either side of the vehicle.
The Reverse Sensing System offers peace of mind and ease of parking.
Traction Control System standard*
The Ford Traction Control System (TCS)* is standard on all petrol BF Falcon sedans and wagons. TCS limits wheel spin during acceleration. It helps the driver to remain in control under heavy acceleration that can occur taking off on slippery roads, negotiating a hill or accelerating out of a corner.
TCS brakes the driven wheel when it demonstrates a tendency to spin and adapts the engine torque to obtain maximum traction.
Airbags
For even greater safety, Falcon's standard driver and passenger airbags are complemented by a side airbag option*. Mounted in the front seats, they provide additional protection in side-on impacts.
Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps prevent the wheels from locking under severe braking conditions. Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) works in tandem with ABS, and adjusts the brakeforce to the rear axle depending on the rear load conditions. For example, EBD takes into account the number of passengers the vehicle is carrying and adjusts the brakeforce accordingly. ABS and EBD combine to help ensure precise braking performance in all weather conditions.
Dynamic Stability Control
Dynamic Stability Control now comes standard across automatic sedans and the XR range*.
